Back in the day VBG when my Dad couldn’t make a living for his family by running a cattle ranch, he was a baker. His Dad got him a job in the bakery out at Ft. Whipple, just a few miles from Prescott, Arizona. My Dad was around 9 or 10 years old. It wasn’t his first grown-up job, but it was an apprenticeship that did grow into a career. He was one of the finest bakers in AZ and CA. By the ’60’s it was beginning to be referred to as being a “pastry chef” and that term is common today. Over 50 years later, his last full time job was as the Pastry Chef at The Wigwam, a very fine resort west of Phoenix, AZ, in Litchfield Park. The Wigwam is still popular today.
And he drove it into my head, and I am so guilty of correcting people about this: “You cook on a stove but you Bake In The Oven.”
The kitchens designed and included in the stunning homes by Drake Homes Inc. offer the best of both: for the cook or the pastry chef in you!
