Never forgetting the great state of Alaska, lets keep this in the lower 48 states.
The Northernmost Point in the continuous 48 States is: Lake of the Woods County, Minnesota. Citing again from Wikipedia:
Lake of the Woods County is a county located in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2010 census, the population was 4,045. Its county seat is Baudette. The county contains the Northwest Angle, the northernmost point of the Lower 48 States, and includes the U.S. portion of Lake of the Woods, shared with Canada. The county also includes the enclave of Elm Point. Since Alaska has no counties, Lake of the Woods is the northernmost county in the United States.
While looking for a more inspiring photo for the post, I did run across this note: Northern most point: Between Bear and Harrison Creeks 49°22′35″N 95°08′56″W
Still looking for a great photo and ran across a Real Estate site LandsofMinnesota.com and currently there is an 80 acre parcel in the county for sale, for $56,000!Appears to be more for hunting that housing. Great pic of a cabin so I hope you catch it before they take down the listing.

Did you know there was a famous, or semi-famous, Southermost Point marker in the US?
The city of Key West, FL claims the honor, however, according to an article on Wikipedia:
The wording is not accurate. Florida’s official southernmost point is Ballast Key, a privately owned island south and west of Key West. Signs on that island strictly prohibit unauthorized visitors. The marker is not even the southernmost point of Key West Island. The private yard directly to the southeast of the buoy is obviously farther south. Land on the Truman Annex property just west-southwest of the buoy is the true southernmost point on the island, (approximately 900 feet (270 m) farther south), but it has no marker since it is U.S. Navy property and cannot be entered by civilian tourists. The southernmost part of Key West Island accessible to civilians is the beach area of Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park at approximately 24.545142 N, 81.80964 W, and approximately 500 feet (150 m) farther south than the marker.
The claim on the buoy stating “90 miles to Cuba” is a rounded number, since Cuba, at its closest point is 94 statute (81 nautical) miles due south.
8540 miles from Houston and from Drake Homes Inc are the Sophia Townhomes. These are so magical I wanted to share a couple of images and the link to the Buensalido Architects project page which is here.
In the last post it was front and rear elevations. Here I’d like to share a couple of the interiors. They are magic with the triangle mirrors in the walls and ceilings.
“The triangle that inspired the facade joins the roof and walls and part of the interior lighting. Most of these triangles are mirrors that give a sense of more space in the rooms.” Description and images courtesy of ARQHYS.com
Here is the artist rendering of the front and back. In the next post, I’ll have two interior shots. First: front elevation:
Next, rear elevation:
If not you might really enjoy the incredible photos you can see there. It didn’t take me long to join. I was encouraged by some of my Disneyland Fanatic Friends and joined early, when it first started.
I post almost every day for Drake Homes Inc too, and have added other, exciting photos from around the world exhibiting unique styles in architecture and design. Be sure and check us out…>Drake Homes Inc on Pinterest
Amazing what pops into a person’s thoughts, and what strange times they occur.
One of the first stories I remember reading By Myself was titled: “East of the Sun – West of the Moon.” This fairy tale from Norway was also the title of a children’s reader used in a second grade class I attended. We moved a lot when I was young, and my sister and I attended three different schools in two states that year. This particular book was part of reading at the Miller Valley School in Prescott, AZ. And I fell in love with the story and the book.
Over at Wikipedia the Synopsis for the story begins thus:
The White Bear approaches a poor peasant and asks if he will give him his youngest daughter; in return, he will make the man rich. The girl is reluctant, so the peasant asks the bear to return, and persuades her in the meantime. The White Bear takes her off to a rich and enchanted castle. At night, he takes off his bear form in order to come to her bed as a man, although the lack of light means that she never sees him.
When she grows homesick, the bear agrees that she might go home as long as she agrees that she will never speak with her mother alone, but only when other people are about. At home, they welcome her, and her mother makes persistent attempts to speak with her alone, finally succeeding and persuading her to tell the whole tale. Hearing it, her mother insists that the White Bear must really be a troll, gives her some candles, and tells her to light them at night, to see what is sharing her bed.
She obeys, and finds he is a highly attractive prince, but she spills three drops of the melted tallow on him, waking him. He tells her that if she held out a year, he would have been free, but now he must go to his wicked stepmother, who enchanted him into this shape and lives in a castle east of the sun and west of the moon, and marry her hideous daughter, a troll princess.
And if you want to know what happens, here is the link to the Wikipedia page however, I strongly suggest you browse Amazon or the other book sites and find the story to read.

The other day I emailed a friend/co-worker. He’s probably in his mid 20’s and very clever and I’m thinking he’s well read. I asked him how to fix some code and I wrote:
“..no matter what I read or examples I look at, I just don’t grok this css template code…”
As with so many brilliant ideas and words of wisdom, the late SciFi novelist, Robert Heinlein, created this word in his novel: Stranger in a Strange Land. “Grok” literally means “to drink” and figuratively means “to comprehend”, “to love”, and “to be one with”.
In this same book, Heinlein wrote of what would become known as a waterbed. See the wiki page above about this interesting bit of history.
Another word created by Heinlein in one of his early short stores: “Waldos” You can read about it here.
My friend had not heard or read the word Grok before. I hope that by now he has read the book.
On to Woot. More recent, and not created by Mr. Heinlein, Woot offers one day only specials! If you haven’t hit this site, you’re missing some great sales. It started as one day sales with products such as cameras, TVs, stereos; more electronic if I remember. They’ve expanded to different Woots, I even have Woot shirts.
Today’s Woot: Kodak EasyShare 14MP Digital Camera on sale for $54.99 marked down from $99.99. I’ve bought two cameras from them, both just perfect. I have friends who buy their PCs and Laptops from them as well.
And if you’re lucky, you can hit a Wootoff.
While you’re waiting, please visit us at Drake Homes Inc! I’m very sure you will grok our site.
