On the first really hot day of summer, the last thing you want is to flip the switch on your central air conditioner only to find that it doesn’t work.
When an air conditioner sits idle for months, collecting leaves and debris, a bit of maintenance is often needed to get it running properly. If you don’t do this maintenance before summer arrives, you may end up waiting several hot days for a busy service pro—and paying top-of-the- season prices, to boot.

And running your AC daily is here – we turned ours on just this week, though it is 50 today! We had our checked out last week and *touch wood* we’re set for summer.
There are dozen of sites which give great tips for season start-up for your unit. About.com has a good page here.
And remember, your lawn helps to cool your home:
“When the temperature of the sidewalk is 100 degrees Fahrenheit, the temperature of the adjacent lawn remains near 75. This cooling may last into the night, with studies showing a 13-degree cooling at 9 p.m.” scientists say.

Not exactly the sort of record I applaud. We broke the “high” for the day with a temperature of 88 degrees. It wouldn’t be so shocking but for the fact that it was a whopping 57 yesterday and tomorrow will be in the 50’s and freezing by tomorrow night.
As we drive around our small town, we live outside of Ft. Worth, the pear trees are blooming, as are the Chinese pistachios. I see leaf buds on all the trees in our yard. Can AC time be very far away?
And that means it is time to consider having your AC unit checked out for the summer, before those 100 degree days hit!
Over at Roxann McDaniel-Doise’s site there is a great page for community resources. If you scroll down you see a short list of companies recommended (under HVAC AC & Heating). It’s not my intention, or her’s, to put a seal of approval on these folks, but they all have good reputations and could be a start for your search.
