The kitchen in the photo is part of one of our single family homes built north of Houston, in the Tuscany Woods Community.
I can just image what would be found on top of the cabinets if my Mother had lived in a home like this one. She was someone who looked, dug, explored, found, brought it home, and washed it to be displayed. I grew up surrounded by the marvelous things she would dig out of old garage burn piles on some of the old ranches we lived on. I have a huge collection of late 1800/early 1900 medicine bottles and whiskey bottles she found just this way. She’d find hidden treasures in old barn, chicken houses too. Even now people throw away things which will be “collectibles” in another 40 or 50 years. LOL Of course one doesn’t want to be a hoarder, and she wasn’t, she could clean with the best of them and toss out items in a heartless way. We moved from Prescott, AZ to near Lebanon, OR when I was little. I remember my older sister and I at the trash cans behind the garage trying to salvage our Disney Comic books. (we did succeed, she said she didn’t realize how badly we wanted to keep them – I still have them).
She always wanted to be an artist: to paint in oils was her dream. Her hero was Grandma Moses. They shared the same birthday and my Mother loved that. She spent many many years crafting her talent and sold many oil paintings.
I can just see three or four of them propped up, on top of these kitchen cabinets with a few medicine and whiskey bottles adding to the display.
