You see this word often, and at our Ashland Square homes you will find it as the flooring in both the utility room and the bathrooms. Doing a bit of research, a short article at Wikipedia reads:
Travertine is a form of limestone deposited by mineral springs, especially hot springs. Travertine often has a fibrous or concentric appearance and exists in white, tan, cream-colored, and even rusty varieties.
While there are many places to mine Travertine, including right here in Texas, there are a few famous Travertine pools, one of the most famous is in Turkey: Travertine Terraces – Pamukkale, Turkey. These formations created by the carbonate minerals in flowing water look otherworldly – and contain hot springs that can reach up to 100°C. As a Unesco World Heritage Site, most of the pools are protected, with just a few remaining open for the public to enjoy.
