Into the first week of September and still over 100 in North Texas, perhaps record breaking heat according to the weather report this evening, but hope is on the way with a cool front on Saturday.
And why don’t I ever hear it called “autumn”? Need to look that one up!
The Old Farmers Almanac tells me that fall for 2012 begins in the Northern Hemisphere on September 22, 10:49 A.M. EDT. The event is named: the autumnal equinox. The word equinox means “equal night” and the day and night will both equal 12 hours. Read more about this on the Old Farmers Almanac website here…>
But the days are already noticeable shorter, less daylight, leaves are already yellowing and starting to fall to the ground and waiting for our rakes. Visions of pumpkins are already dancing in my dreams.
And yard work! Lots to do in the fall. Here are a few good links for you about fall gardening:
If you want to try a Fall Vegetable Garden, here’s a nice Houston gardening blog article by Buchanan’s Native Plants.
No set of links about gardening in Texas would be complete without a link to Neil Sperry’s web site. He’s helped me through many gardening issues, regardless of what part of Texas I lived in at the time!
